Crock Pot Savory Sloppy Joes
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup chili sauce
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons mustard
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 8 rolls or slider buns
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients:
- Finely chop the onion.
- Mince the garlic.
- Dice the bell pepper.
- Chop the celery.
2. Brown the Ground Beef:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, until fully browned. This should take approximately 8-10 minutes.
- Drain excess fat, and transfer the beef to your Crock Pot.
3. Add Vegetables:
- To the meat in the Crock Pot, add the chopped onion, minced garlic, diced bell pepper, and chopped celery.
4. Prepare the Sauce:
- In a small bowl, combine ketchup, chili sauce, brown sugar, tomato paste, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and chili powder.
- Mix well until the brown sugar is dissolved.
5. Combine and Cook:
- Pour the sauce mixture over the meat and vegetables in the Crock Pot.
- Stir to ensure everything is well combined.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 hours (PT6H) or on high for 3 hours (PT3H).
6. Toast the Buns (Optional):
- If desired, lightly toast the rolls or slider buns just before serving for added texture.
7. Assemble and Serve:
- Spoon generous portions of the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.
- Top with the other half and serve warm.
