Spicy Crispy Chili Bites
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon chili pepper, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Water (enough to make a thick batter)
- Oil for deep frying (enough to fill a pot with about 3 inches depth)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, garlic powder, paprika, red chili powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix well to ensure all the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
2. Mix the Wet Ingredients
Slowly add water to the dry mixture while stirring continuously until a thick, smooth batter forms. The consistency should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon yet thin enough to drizzle smoothly, resembling pancake batter.
3. Heat the Oil
Pour oil into a deep frying pan or pot, filling it to about 3 inches deep. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches approximately 350°F (175°C). To test, drop a small amount of batter into the oil; if it sizzles and rises to the surface, the oil is ready.
4. Coat and Fry
Take small spoonfuls of the batter and carefully drop them into the hot oil, being cautious of splashes. Fry the bites in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, turning occasionally until they are golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per batch.
5. Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the chili bites from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
