Spiced Onion Fritters with Chili-Cinnamon Glaze



Ingredients



- 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup sunflower oil (for frying)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon tapioca powder
- 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast

Instructions



1. Prep the Onions:
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced onions, salt, chili powder, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, and dried oregano. Toss until the onions are evenly coated with the spices.

2. Coat with Tapioca:
- Sprinkle the tapioca powder over the spiced onions. Toss again to ensure every slice is well-coated. This will help achieve a crispy texture during frying.

3. Heat the Oil:
- In a large skillet, heat the sunflower oil over medium-high heat. The oil should reach approximately 350°F (175°C) for optimal frying.

4. Fry the Fritters:
- Carefully add small mounds of the onion mixture to the hot oil, flattening them slightly with a spatula.
- Fry each side for approximately 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.

5. Prepare the Glaze:
- While the fritters are frying, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a small saucepan over low heat.
- Stir in the nutritional yeast until dissolved and blended smoothly with the oil.
- Remove from heat and drizzle over fried fritters immediately after cooking for a flavorful glaze.

6. Serve:
- Transfer the fritters to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plate the fritters, garnish with additional chopped oregano or chili powder if desired, and serve warm.
