Oven-Baked Chili Cheese Hot Dogs
Ingredients
- 8 hot dog buns
- 8 hot dogs
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 ½ cups tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef stock or broth
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 large onion, sliced
- Pickles, sliced (optional)
- Jalapenos, sliced (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Prepare the Chili Sauce
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook until browned and no longer pink, breaking it up with a spoon, about 6-8 minutes.
- Stir in the chili powder, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and dijon mustard. Mix well to combine.
- Pour in the beef stock. Bring the mixture to a simmer, reduce the heat to low, and let it simmer uncovered for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Sauté Onions
- In a separate skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
- Add sliced onions and sauté until they are golden and caramelized, about 10-12 minutes. Set aside.
4. Assemble Hot Dogs
- Place each hot dog in a bun and line them up in a large oven-safe baking dish.
- Spoon the chili sauce over each hot dog, ensuring they are generously covered.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top evenly.
5. Bake in the Oven
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake until the cheese is fully melted, about 10-12 minutes.
6. Garnish and Serve
- Top each chili cheese dog with caramelized onions.
- Add pickles and jalapenos according to taste.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
