Hearty Stove-Top Cowboy Sausage and Bean Skillet
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 4 slices maple cured bacon, chopped
- 1 can (16 oz) baked beans
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 pork sausage link, sliced
- 2 hot dogs, sliced
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients:
Start by gathering and preparing all your ingredients. Chop the onion, slice the smoked sausage, pork sausage, and hot dogs and dice the potatoes.
2. Cook the Bacon:
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the chopped maple cured bacon. Cook for about 4 minutes until the bacon is crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pan.
3. Brown the Beef:
Add the ground beef to the skillet with the bacon fat. Cook over medium-high heat for about 6 minutes, breaking it apart with a spoon until it is browned and fully cooked. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
4. Sauté the Onion and Potatoes:
In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and diced potatoes. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the onion is soft and translucent and the potatoes begin to brown, about 10 minutes.
5. Combine Ingredients:
Return the ground beef to the skillet with the onions and potatoes. Add the sliced smoked sausage, pork sausage, and hot dogs. Stir in the baked beans, ketchup, barbecue sauce, yellow mustard, hot sauce, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to combine.
6. Simmer:
Lower the heat to simmer the mixture for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld together.
7. Serve:
Top with the crispy bacon just before serving. Serve hot and enjoy your hearty skillet meal!
