Savory Ham & Cheese Fusion with Rich Worcestershire Glaze
Ingredients
- 4 slices of ham (thick-cut, approximately 1/4 inch)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your preferred choice)
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon molasses
- 2 anchovy fillets
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
1. Preparation of Anchovy Paste:
- Using a small bowl, mash the anchovy fillets with a fork until a smooth paste is formed.
2. Prepare the Glaze:
- In a saucepan over medium heat, add the mashed anchovy paste and minced garlic. Sauté for approximately 2 minutes or until the garlic is golden and fragrant.
- Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, red wine vinegar, molasses, and tamarind paste. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens into a glossy glaze.
- Remove from heat and set aside.
3. Cook the Ham:
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Place the ham slices in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, until they are browned and slightly crispy.
4. Assembly:
- Lower the heat to medium, and evenly distribute the shredded cheese over the ham slices in the skillet.
- Cover the skillet with a lid and let the cheese melt, which will take about 2-3 minutes.
5. Final Touch:
- Once the cheese is fully melted and bubbly, drizzle the Worcestershire glaze over each ham slice.
- Allow everything to cook together for an additional 1-2 minutes to meld the flavors.
6. Serve:
- Transfer the glazed ham and cheese to a serving platter and serve hot.
