Caramelized Cinnamon Apples on the Stove
Ingredients
- 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
1. Prepare the Apples: Begin by peeling, coring, and thinly slicing 4 medium-sized apples. Aim for uniform slices to ensure even cooking.
2. Mix the Sugar and Cinnamon: In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup of granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Stir until well-mixed.
3. Heat the Pan: Place a medium-sized skillet on the stove over medium heat. Allow the skillet to warm up for about 2 minutes to ensure even heat distribution.
4. Start Cooking the Apples: Add the apple slices to the skillet, and pour 1/4 cup of water over them. Stir gently to distribute the sugar and cinnamon evenly over the apples.
5. Caramelize the Apples: Continue to cook the apples, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes. The sugar will dissolve, and the apples will begin to soften.
6. Evaporate Excess Liquid: Allow the mixture to simmer until the water has evaporated, and the sugar begins to caramelize, coating the apple slices. This should take another 5 minutes.
7. Check for Doneness: Once the apples are tender and lightly caramelized, remove from heat. They should have a light glaze and a golden hue.
8. Serve: Transfer the caramelized cinnamon apples to a serving dish. They can be served warm or at room temperature.
