Perfectly Seared Oven-Steak with Garlic Butter
Ingredients
- 2 Ribeye steaks (1 inch thick)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
Set your oven to preheat at 400°F (200°C).
2. Prepare the Steaks
Pat the steaks dry with a paper towel to ensure a good sear. Rub both sides of each steak with olive oil and season generously with kosher salt and black pepper.
3. Sear the Steaks
Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Sear the steaks for 2-3 minutes on each side until they develop a golden-brown crust.
4. Add Garlic Butter
Reduce heat to medium and add the unsalted butter to the pan. Once melted, add the minced garlic. Use a spoon to baste the hot butter over the steaks for about 1 minute, ensuring they are infused with flavor.
5. Transfer to the Oven
Move the skillet to the preheated oven. Roast the steaks for about 6-8 minutes for medium-rare, 8-10 minutes for medium, or until the desired doneness is reached. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature (medium-rare: 135°F, medium: 145°F).
6. Rest the Steaks
Carefully remove the skillet from the oven and transfer the steaks to a cutting board. Let them rest for 5-7 minutes before slicing. This resting time allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring a moist and tender steak.
