Perfectly Spiced Stove-Top Beef and Bean Chili
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 (15 oz) cans beans of choice (e.g., kidney or black beans), drained and rinsed
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup sour cream
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1-2 jalapeño peppers, sliced (adjust quantity based on spice preference)
Instructions
1. Prepare Ingredients: Begin by preparing all ingredients. Finely chop the onion, mince the garlic, and slice the jalapeño peppers. Set aside.
2. Cook Beef: In a large pot or deep skillet, heat over medium. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes.
3. Sauté Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté until the onion is translucent, approximately 5 minutes.
4. Spice It Up: Stir in the ground cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Allow the spices to toast for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent sticking.
5. Mix Tomato Base: Add the tomato paste and canned diced tomatoes (with juices) to the pot. Stir well to combine. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer uncovered for 10 minutes to develop flavors.
6. Beans and Heat: Stir in the drained beans, mixing thoroughly. Allow the chili to simmer, stirring occasionally, for an additional 15 minutes until heated through.
7. Finish and Garnish: Remove from heat and adjust seasoning to taste. Serve hot, topped with shredded cheddar cheese, a dollop of sour cream, freshly chopped cilantro, and sliced jalapeño peppers.
