Apple Ginger Tart with a Sour Cream Twist
Ingredients
- 2 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 prepared pastry crust (9-inch)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Prepare Pastry Crust: Place the prepared pastry crust in a 9-inch tart pan, gently pressing it into the edges for a snug fit. Trim any excess crust hanging over the edge.
3. Mix Apple Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, granulated sugar, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss until the apples are evenly coated with the mixture.
4. Layer Apples: Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern over the pastry crust, overlapping slightly to create a visually appealing design.
5. Prepare Sour Cream Mixture: In a separate small bowl, mix the sour cream with a spoon until it's smooth and creamy. Spoon dollops of sour cream over the layered apples, spreading gently.
6. Add Egg Wash: Use a pastry brush to apply the beaten egg wash to the exposed edges of the pastry crust.
7. Bake the Tart: Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes, or until the pastry crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
8. Cool and Set: Remove the tart from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.
