Peppermint Caramel Apple Streusel
Ingredients
For the Base:
- 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
For the Filling:
- 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/4 cup caramel sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin spice
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
For the Streusel Topping:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
For the Peppermint Cocoa Drizzle:
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Prepare the Base:
- In a medium bowl, mix the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and granulated sugar until well combined.
- Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of a greased 9-inch baking dish to form the crust.
3. Prepare the Filling:
- In a mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with the caramel sauce, pumpkin spice, and cinnamon until the apples are thoroughly coated.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the graham cracker crust.
4. Make the Streusel Topping:
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, chopped pecans, and chopped walnuts.
- Drizzle the melted butter over the mixture and mix until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the streusel evenly over the apples.
5. Bake:
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for PT35M (35 minutes), or until the apples are tender and the streusel is golden brown.
6. Prepare the Peppermint Cocoa Drizzle:
- In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the cocoa powder, maple syrup, peppermint extract, and heavy cream.
- Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened, about PT5M (5 minutes).
7. Finish and Serve:
- Once baked, remove the dessert from the oven and allow it to cool for at least PT10M (10 minutes).
- Drizzle the peppermint cocoa sauce over the top before serving.
