Decadent Caramel Chocolate Oat Bars

Ingredients

- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ¼ cups old-fashioned oats
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 40 caramel squares, unwrapped
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk
- 1/3 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for the baking process.

2. Prepare the Dry Mix: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, oats, cinnamon, salt, and baking soda. Stir together with a whisk to ensure even distribution.

3. Mix in the Wet Ingredients: Add the melted butter and brown sugar to the dry mix. Stir until the mixture is crumbly and thoroughly combined.

4. Form the Base Layer: Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan. Press two-thirds of the oat mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form an even layer.

5. Bake the Base Layer: Bake the base layer in the preheated oven for approximately PT15M (15 minutes), or until the edges are lightly golden.

6. Prepare the Caramel Layer: While the base is baking, place the caramel squares and evaporated milk in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until the caramels are fully melted and the mixture is smooth - approximately PT5M (5 minutes).

7. Add the Heavy Cream: Once the caramel is smooth, stir in the heavy cream until well incorporated. Remove the mixture from the heat.

8. Assemble the Layers: Remove the baking pan from the oven. Sprinkle the milk and semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the warm base layer. Drizzle the caramel mixture gently over the chocolate chips.

9. Finish the Bars: Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the top of the caramel layer, ensuring some of the caramel and chocolate peek through.

10. Final Baking Stage: Return the pan to the oven and bake for PT20M (20 minutes), or until the top is golden brown and caramel is bubbly.

11. Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cool, cut into bars and enjoy.
