Decadent Maple Cinnamon Apple Pie



Ingredients



- Pie Filling:
- 6 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup

- Pie Crust:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup Crisco shortening
- 6 tablespoons ice-cold water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt

- Topping:
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions



1. Prepare the Pie Crust:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
- Cut in 1 cup of Crisco shortening using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add 6 tablespoons of ice-cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing lightly with a fork until the dough begins to form.
- Divide the dough in half, shape into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least PT1H (1 hour).

2. Prepare the Apple Filling:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.
- Add 1/3 cup of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of maple syrup. Stir until the apples are evenly coated.

3. Assemble the Pie:
- Roll out one disc of the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch circle. Carefully transfer it to a 9-inch pie pan.
- Fill the pie crust with the prepared apple filling, spreading it evenly.
- Dot the butter pieces over the apple mixture.
- Roll out the second dough disc and place it over the filling. Trim excess dough and crimp the edges to seal.
- Cut a few slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape.

4. Bake the Pie:
- Place the pie on the middle rack of the oven. Bake for PT15M (15 minutes).
- Reduce the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for PT30M (30 minutes), or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Allow the pie to cool for at least PT1H (1 hour) before serving.
