Pan-Seared Tuna with Lemon Capers and Roasted Red Peppers
Ingredients
- 4 tuna steaks (approximately 5 oz each)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus extra for serving
- 1 lemon, juiced and zested
- 2 tablespoons capers, drained
- 1/2 cup roasted red peppers, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup fresh herbs (such as parsley, basil, and chives), finely chopped
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
1. Prepare the Tuna Steaks:
- Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper to taste.
2. Preheat the Pan:
- Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering but not smoking, approximately 2 minutes.
3. Sear the Tuna:
- Carefully place the tuna steaks in the hot pan. Sear each side for about 2-3 minutes for a rare center or longer if you prefer it more cooked. Remove the tuna and set aside on a plate.
4. Prepare the Sauce:
- Lower the heat to medium. Add capers and lemon zest to the oil left in the pan, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add lemon juice and sliced roasted red peppers, stirring occasionally for another 2 minutes.
5. Combine Ingredients:
- Return the tuna steak to the pan and spoon the lemon caper mixture over each piece.
- Sprinkle chopped fresh herbs evenly over the tuna steaks.
6. Serve:
- Plate the tuna steaks, spooning additional sauce over each one. Drizzle a small amount of olive oil over the top for extra flavor.
