Slow-Cooked Ginger Soy Flank Steak with Broccoli



Ingredients



- 1 ½ pounds flank steak, trimmed and sliced thinly
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- ½ cup hoisin sauce
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 cup beef or chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 cups cooked rice (for serving)

Instructions



1. Prepare the Flank Steak:
Thinly slice the flank steak against the grain into strips. This will ensure the meat stays tender and cooks evenly in the crock pot.

2. Mix the Sauce:
In a mixing bowl, combine the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Whisk well until the brown sugar dissolves.

3. Assemble in Crock Pot:
In the crock pot, place the sliced flank steak and pour in the sauce mixture. Toss the steak to ensure it is evenly coated with the sauce.

4. Add Broccoli:
Layer the broccoli florets over the top of the steak mixture in the crock pot.

5. Cook on Low:
Set your crock pot to LOW heat and cook for PT4H (4 hours) until the steak is tender and infused with the savory flavors.

6. Thicken the Sauce:
In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. About 30 minutes before serving, stir this mixture into the crock pot. This will thicken the sauce as it continues to cook.

7. Prepare the Rice:
As the dish finishes cooking, prepare the rice according to package instructions. You will use this as a bed for your finished steak and broccoli.

8. Serve:
Once thickened, serve the ginger soy flank steak and broccoli over a bed of cooked rice. Ladle additional sauce from the crock pot over each serving for extra flavor.
