Smoky Glazed Grilled Baked Beans
Ingredients
- 2 cans (14 oz each) baked beans
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
1. Preheat the Grill
Begin by setting up your charcoal grill. Ensure a medium heat is achieved by distributing the hot coals evenly. You want an even, indirect heat for cooking the beans. Preheat your grill for about 10 minutes.
2. Prepare the Bean Mixture
While the grill is heating, open the canned baked beans and pour them into a grill-safe cast-iron skillet or a heavy-duty disposable aluminum pan.
3. Mix in Spices and Sweetness
Add the brown sugar, smoked paprika, ground cumin, cayenne pepper (if using), garlic powder, and onion powder directly into the beans. Stir gently until well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
4. Grill the Beans
Place the skillet or pan on the grill over indirect heat. Close the lid of the grill and allow the beans to cook for approximately 30-35 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking and prevent sticking.
5. Check and Serve
Once the beans have thickened and the flavors are thoroughly melded, remove the skillet carefully from the grill. Let it sit for a couple of minutes before serving, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly as it cools.
6. Enjoy
Serve the smoky glazed baked beans hot as a tasty side for your grilled dinner.
