Slow-Cooked French Onion Beef Sandwiches
Ingredients
- 2 pounds beef roast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed beef broth
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed French onion soup
- 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
- 1 bottle (12 oz) light beer
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 6 rolls, halved
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
1. Prepare the Beef:
- Season the beef roast with salt and pepper on all sides.
2. Setting up the Crock Pot:
- Pour the condensed beef broth and French onion soup into the Crock Pot.
- Place the seasoned beef roast into the Crock Pot.
- Scatter the thinly sliced onions and minced garlic around the beef.
3. Adding Liquids and Aromatics:
- Pour the light beer over the contents.
- Sprinkle the chopped rosemary over everything.
- Drizzle the Worcestershire sauce on top.
4. Slow Cooking:
- Cover the Crock Pot with its lid.
- Set the Crock Pot to low heat and cook for 8 hours.
5. Prepare the Gravy:
- 30 minutes before the beef is ready, remove 1 cup of the cooking liquid from the Crock Pot.
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the cornstarch mixed with water to the saucepan, whisking until smooth.
- Gradually stir in the reserved cooking liquid, whisking continuously until thickened to a gravy consistency.
6. Shred the Beef:
- Once the cooking time is complete, remove the beef from the Crock Pot and use two forks to shred it into bite-sized pieces.
7. Assemble the Sandwiches:
- Preheat your oven's broiler.
- Place halved rolls on a baking sheet.
- Pile the shredded beef onto the bottom halves of the rolls evenly.
- Top each sandwich with a slice of provolone cheese.
- Place under the broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
8. Serve:
- Place a small bowl of gravy on the side for each sandwich.
- Assemble the sandwiches by closing them with the top half of the rolls.
- Serve hot with gravy for dipping.
