Pan-Seared Shishito Peppers with Savory Sesame Glaze
Ingredients
- 1 pound Shishito Peppers
- 2 tablespoons Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 tablespoon Flaked Sea Salt
- 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dark Brown Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Sesame Oil
- 1/2 teaspoon Ground Ginger
- 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
Instructions
1. Prepare the Peppers
- Rinse and pat dry the shishito peppers. Make sure they are completely dry to prevent oil splatter during cooking.
2. Heat the Skillet
- Place a large skillet on the stove over medium-high heat. Add the extra-virgin olive oil and allow it to get hot, approximately 2 minutes.
3. Sear the Peppers
- Add the shishito peppers to the hot skillet in a single layer. Cook for about 6 to 8 minutes, turning occasionally until they are blistered and lightly charred on all sides.
4. Prepare the Glaze
- While the peppers are cooking, in a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, dark brown sugar, sesame oil, ground ginger, and minced garlic.
5. Combine and Cook
- Reduce the heat to low. Pour the sesame glaze over the blistered peppers, stirring to coat the peppers evenly. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
6. Serve
- Remove from heat and transfer the peppers to a serving platter. Sprinkle flaked sea salt and sesame seeds over the top for garnish.
