Baked Cabbage with Orange-Maple Glaze
Ingredients
- 1 medium head of cabbage, sliced into wedges
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
- Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and allow it to preheat while you prepare the cabbage.
2. Prepare the Cabbage
- Remove any outer leaves from the cabbage that are damaged or wilted.
- Cut the cabbage into even wedges, ensuring they remain intact at the core to hold their shape during baking.
3. Arrange Cabbage in a Baking Dish
- Lightly grease a baking dish with a tablespoon of olive oil.
- Arrange the cabbage wedges in a single layer, cut side down, in the prepared dish.
4. Prepare the Orange-Maple Glaze
- In a small mixing bowl, combine the remaining olive oil, fresh orange juice, red wine vinegar, maple syrup, melted butter, and salt.
- Whisk together until well blended and smooth.
5. Coat Cabbage with Glaze
- Pour the glaze evenly over the cabbage wedges, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
- Tilt the baking dish slightly to spread the glaze around all edges of the cabbage.
6. Bake the Cabbage
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven.
- Bake for 35 minutes, then carefully turn the wedges over and spoon the glaze from the bottom of the dish over the top.
- Continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and lightly caramelized on the edges.
7. Serve and Enjoy
- Remove from the oven and let the cabbage sit for 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm, either alone or as a side dish to complement your favorite main course.
