Berry-Nut Breakfast Scones

Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup fresh berries (such as blueberries or raspberries)
- 1/4 cup dried fruit (such as cranberries or apricots)
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (such as walnuts or almonds)

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. Prepare Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

3. Incorporate Butter
Add the chilled, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry blender or your fingers, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

4. Add Wet Ingredients
In a small bowl, stir together the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture over the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

5. Fold in Add-ins
Gently fold the fresh berries, dried fruit, chocolate chips, and chopped nuts into the dough. Be careful not to smash the berries.

6. Shape Scones
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently about 2 to 3 times to form a ball. Flatten the dough into a 1-inch thick disc.

7. Cut and Place
Using a sharp knife, cut the disc into 8 wedges and place them onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

8. Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

9. Cool and Serve
Allow the scones to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
