Cedar Plank Grilled Salmon with Honey Maple Glaze
Ingredients
- 4 portions of salmon fillets, approximately 6 ounces each, skinless
- 1 cedar plank, soaked in water for at least 1 hour
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Lemon wedges, for serving (optional)
Instructions
1. Soak Cedar Plank:
Place the cedar plank in a large bowl and cover it completely with water. Weigh it down with a heavy object if necessary to keep it submerged. Soak for at least 1 hour prior to grilling.
2. Prepare the Glaze:
In a small saucepan, combine honey, maple syrup, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, olive oil, garlic powder, and black pepper. Whisk together and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Allow to cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.
3. Prepare the Charcoal Grill:
Preheat the charcoal grill to medium heat, ensuring you have an even layer of hot charcoal. If using a charcoal chimney, light the charcoal and wait until it's fully ashed over before spreading it in the grill. Maintain a temperature of about 350 °F.
4. Grill the Salmon:
Place the soaked cedar plank on the grill grate and cover for about 3 minutes until the plank begins to smoke and crackle slightly.
Open the grill and place the salmon fillets on the cedar plank, spacing them evenly. Brush each fillet generously with the honey maple glaze, reserving a portion of the glaze for later use.
5. Cook the Salmon:
Cover the grill and allow the salmon to cook indirectly over the charcoal for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until the salmon easily flakes with a fork and has reached your desired level of doneness.
6. Final Glaze and Serve:
Reheat the reserved glaze for a moment, if necessary. Then, carefully remove the salmon fillets from the plank, transferring them to a serving platter. Drizzle with the remaining honey maple glaze, accent with lemon wedges if using, and serve immediately.
