Chai-Spiced Nut and Seed Porridge
Ingredients
- 1 tea bag
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup oats
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon pepitas
- 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
- 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts
- 2 tablespoons pecans, roughly chopped
- 2 tablespoons slivered almonds
- 1 teaspoon Swasti's chai spice blend
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
1. Brew the Tea
- In a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a gentle boil over medium heat. Add the tea bag, remove the saucepan from heat, and let it steep for 5 minutes. Once steeped, discard the tea bag.
2. Prepare the Oats
- Return the saucepan with the brewed tea to the stove, set to medium heat, and add 1 cup of whole milk. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
3. Cook the Porridge
- Stir in 1 cup of oats and 1/4 teaspoon of salt into the saucepan. Cook, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes or until the oats are tender and the mixture has thickened.
4. Add Sweetness and Spice
- Incorporate 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 teaspoon of Swasti's chai spice blend, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cardamom, and 1/8 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper. Stir constantly to blend flavors evenly.
5. Mix in Nuts and Seeds
- Add 1 tablespoon of pepitas, 1 tablespoon of hemp seeds, 2 tablespoons of chopped walnuts, 2 tablespoons of pecans, and 2 tablespoons of slivered almonds to the porridge. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes, stirring well to ensure even distribution.
6. Serve the Porridge
- Spoon the chai-spiced porridge into bowls. Drizzle with extra honey if desired and serve warm.
