Chili-Infused Silken Tofu with Sesame Roasted Peppers
Ingredients
- 14 oz package of silken tofu
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp chili crisp
- 3 scallions, sliced thinly
- 1 tbsp chili oil
- 1 tbsp chili sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- 1 tbsp nutritional yeast
- 1 oz dark chocolate, finely grated
- Mixed fresh herbs (such as cilantro and parsley), for garnish
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup roasted peppers, sliced
- 1/4 cup caramelized onions
- 2 tbsp tahini
- 1/4 cup pitted olives
Instructions
1. Prep the Tofu and Marinade:
Begin by draining the silken tofu and gently patting it dry with a paper towel. Set aside. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, chili crisp, chili oil, turmeric, nutritional yeast, and lemon juice. Pour the marinade over the tofu and let it sit for at least 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
2. Sauté the Aromatics:
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced scallions, allowing them to soften for about 2 minutes. Add the caramelized onions and sauté for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.
3. Cook the Tofu:
Gently add the marinated tofu to the skillet. Cook each side for approximately 3 minutes or until slightly golden, being careful not to break the tofu. Once cooked, remove the tofu from the heat and set aside.
4. Prepare the Roasted Peppers:
Using the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil. Toss in the roasted peppers, stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes. Mix in the vinegar, chili sauce, and sesame seeds, and let it all cook together for an additional 2 minutes.
5. Assembly:
On a serving platter, layer the cooked tofu, spoon the sesame roasted peppers over, and sprinkle with grated dark chocolate for a hint of unexpected richness. Drizzle tahini over the dish, scatter olives, and garnish with fresh herbs.
6. Finish:
Serve warm, allowing the flavors to meld harmoniously.
