Cinnamon-Spiced Orange Rum Cake
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup dark rum
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven:
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to preheat while you prepare the cake batter. Ensure your oven rack is in the middle position.
2. Prepare the Cake Pan:
Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan. Set aside.
3. Combine Dry Ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, kosher salt, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves. Set aside.
4. Cream Butter and Sugar:
In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, approximately 3-4 minutes.
5. Incorporate Flavorings and Eggs:
Mix in the orange zest and vanilla extract. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition until fully incorporated.
6. Alternate Adding Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the heavy cream. Begin with the dry ingredients and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
7. Add Dark Rum:
Gently fold in the dark rum and water until the batter is smooth.
8. Pour and Smooth Batter:
Transfer the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
9. Bake the Cake:
Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
10. Cool the Cake:
Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
