Citrus Soy Glazed Chicken Thighs
Ingredients
- 6 chicken thighs, skin-on and bone-in
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1/3 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon mirin
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
Instructions
1. Prepare the Marinade:
In a small mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, orange juice, honey, mirin, sesame oil, grated ginger, and orange zest. Whisk together until the honey is fully dissolved and the ingredients are well blended.
2. Marinate the Chicken:
Place the chicken thighs in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring that each thigh is evenly coated. Seal the bag, pressing out any air, or cover the dish with plastic wrap. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or up to overnight for maximum flavor.
3. Remove from the Refrigerator:
About 30 minutes before cooking, remove the chicken from the refrigerator to allow it to come to room temperature. This ensures even cooking. Drain the chicken, reserving the marinade for later use.
4. Preheat the Pan:
Heat the avocado oil in a large, non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering but not smoking, add the chicken thighs, skin-side down.
5. Sear the Chicken:
Sear the chicken for 5-7 minutes on each side until the skin is golden brown and crispy. Reduce the heat to medium if needed to prevent burning.
6. Simmer with Marinade:
Lower the heat to medium. Carefully pour the reserved marinade into the pan around the chicken. Allow the chicken to simmer in the marinade for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and the chicken is fully cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
7. Glaze the Chicken:
As the sauce reduces, repeatedly spoon it over the chicken. This glazing technique will help caramelize the exterior and enhance the flavor.
8. Serve:
Transfer the chicken thighs to a serving platter. Drizzle any remaining pan sauce over the top for added flavor.
