Classic Cheese-Infused Potato Bake
Ingredients
- 6 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup Colby Jack cheese, shredded
- 1 cup medium cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Prepare the Baking Dish: Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
3. Make the Cheese Sauce:
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add the flour to the melted butter, whisking continuously to form a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
- Gradually pour in the milk and cream, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
- Continue cooking the sauce, stirring frequently, until it thickens (about 5 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in the salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Add the Colby Jack and cheddar cheeses, stirring until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
4. Assemble the Potato Bake:
- Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in an even layer in the prepared baking dish.
- Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes, making sure to cover them evenly.
- Repeat with the remaining potato slices and the rest of the cheese sauce.
5. Bake:
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.
- After 40 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
