Classic Italian Tiramisu with a Twist of Amaretto and Dark Rum
Ingredients
- Ladyfingers: 24 pieces
- Mascarpone cheese: 16 ounces
- Salt: a pinch
- Coffee (brewed strong and cooled): 1 1/2 cups
- Powdered sugar: 1/2 cup
- Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
- Coffee liqueur: 1/4 cup
- Amaretto: 1/4 cup
- Dark rum: 2 tablespoons
- Unsweetened cocoa powder: 2 tablespoons
- Instant coffee: 1 tablespoon
Instructions
1. Make the Coffee Mixture:
- Brew 1 1/2 cups of strong coffee and let it cool.
- Add 1/4 cup of coffee liqueur, 1/4 cup of Amaretto, and 2 tablespoons of dark rum to the cooled coffee. Stir well.
2. Prepare the Mascarpone Mixture:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 16 ounces of mascarpone cheese with a pinch of salt.
- Add 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of instant coffee. Mix until smooth and creamy.
3. Assemble the Tiramisu:
- Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy. Line the bottom of an 8x8-inch square dish with a single layer of soaked ladyfingers.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture evenly over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
4. Chill and Serve:
- Cover the tiramisu with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
- Just before serving, sift 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder over the top.
