Creamy Gruyère & American Cheese Onion Bake



Ingredients



- 2 cups Gruyère cheese, shredded
- 1 cup American cheese, shredded
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup beef bouillon
- 1/4 cup dry sherry
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

Instructions



1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Caramelize the Onions
In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized, about 20 minutes.

3. Reduce the Bouillon and Sherry
Increase the heat to medium-high. Pour in the beef bouillon and dry sherry. Stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Allow the mixture to simmer until reduced by half, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.

4. Assemble the Dish
In a baking dish, spread the caramelized onion mixture evenly across the bottom. Sprinkle half of the Gruyère cheese and all of the American cheese over the onions. Top with the remaining Gruyère cheese.

5. Add the Breadcrumbs
Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the cheese layer. Add a sprinkle of salt and pepper for flavor.

6. Bake
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.

7. Cool and Serve
Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes. Serve warm as a satisfying dinner option.
