Creamy Pea & Onion Delight
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 3 cups frozen peas
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
1. Prepare Onion:
- Melt the unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about PT10M (10 minutes).
2. Season:
- Sprinkle the kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper over the onions, stirring to combine.
3. Cook Peas:
- Add the frozen peas to the skillet, mixing well with the onions for even distribution.
- Pour in the water and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Cover the skillet and let the peas cook until tender, approximately PT5M (5 minutes).
4. Create Cream Sauce:
- Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the heavy cream, allowing it to warm through, about PT2M (2 minutes).
5. Season and Finish:
- Sprinkle the ground nutmeg over the mixture, stirring to combine thoroughly.
- Allow the mixture to simmer gently, thickening the cream sauce around the peas, for an additional PT3M (3 minutes).
6. Serve:
- Once the sauce has reached the desired consistency, taste and adjust for seasoning with additional salt or pepper if needed.
- Serve hot as a creamy side dish or a light vegetarian main course.
