Crispy Deep-Fried Shrimp Delight
Ingredients
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Half teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon water
- Vegetable oil for frying (enough to fill the fryer halfway)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Shrimp:
- Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel. Remove any remaining veins or shells.
2. Prepare the Batter Stations:
- In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt, mixing thoroughly.
- In a second dish, beat the eggs with the tablespoon of water until well combined.
3. Coat the Shrimp:
- Dip each shrimp into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
- Next, coat the shrimp with the flour and cornmeal mixture, pressing gently to ensure an even crust. Place the coated shrimp on a tray.
4. Heat the Oil:
- Fill a deep fryer or a large, deep pot with vegetable oil to half its capacity. Preheat the oil to 350°F (175°C) — this should take about PT10M (10 minutes).
5. Deep-Fry the Shrimp:
- Carefully place the shrimp in the hot oil in small batches, avoiding overcrowding.
- Fry each batch for about PT3M (3 minutes), or until the shrimp are golden brown and crisp on the outside.
6. Drain and Serve:
- Using a slotted spoon, remove the shrimp from the hot oil and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
