Crispy Milk Snack Fritters
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Milk Mixture:
- In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the whole milk, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is fully dissolved, approximately 5 minutes.
2. Make the Batter:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, two large eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
- Slowly add the warm milk mixture to the dry ingredients, whisking continuously until a smooth, lump-free batter forms.
3. Thicken the Batter:
- Return the saucepan to the stove on medium-low heat; pour back the batter.
- Stir constantly until the mixture thickens significantly and begins to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 10-12 minutes.
- Once thickened, remove from heat, transfer the batter to a lined baking dish, and allow it to cool and set at room temperature for 30 minutes.
4. Shape the Fritters:
- Once set, cut the cooled mixture into small squares or desired shapes for frying.
5. Pan Fry the Fritters:
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F (use a thermometer for accuracy).
- Carefully place the milk squares into the hot oil. Do this in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Fry each side until golden brown and crispy, approximately 2 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the fritters and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
6. Serve:
- Dust the warm fritters with powdered sugar before serving them immediately as an indulgent snack.
