Crispy Oven-Baked Potato Wedges
Ingredients
- 4 large Russet potatoes
- 2 teaspoons salt
- Water (for soaking)
- 3 tablespoons oil (canola or olive)
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and generously grease a large baking sheet with some of the oil to prevent sticking.
2. Prepare the Potatoes
Wash and scrub the Russet potatoes under cold water. Leave the skin on for added texture and flavor. Slice each potato in half lengthwise, then cut each half into about 4 to 6 wedges, depending on the size of the potato.
3. Soak the Potatoes
Place the potato wedges in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water. Allow the potatoes to soak for at least 20 minutes to remove excess starch for crispy wedges.
4. Dry and Season
Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel. Make sure they are completely dry to ensure crispiness. In the same bowl, toss the wedges with the remaining 1 teaspoon of salt and 3 tablespoons of oil until all pieces are evenly coated.
5. Bake the Potatoes
Arrange the wedges in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Ensure that they are not overcrowded and none are overlapping. This helps them bake evenly and get crispy.
6. Oven-Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for about 35 to 40 minutes. After the first 20 minutes, use a spatula to carefully flip each wedge for even browning. Continue to bake until the wedges are golden brown and crisp on the outside but tender on the inside.
7. Serve
Remove from the oven and let the wedges cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them as a delicious side dish for your dinner or as a standalone snack.
