Crunchy Tofu Bites with Garlic and Herb Crust
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, drained and pressed (about 14 ounces)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup cereal or breadcrumbs, crushed
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
1. Prepare Tofu
Slice the tofu into bite-sized cubes, approximately 1-inch each. Set aside while you prepare the breading stations.
2. Set Up Breading Stations
- Station 1: Mix the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a shallow dish or bowl.
- Station 2: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until well combined.
- Station 3: Place the crushed cereal or breadcrumbs in another shallow dish.
3. Coat the Tofu
- Dredge each tofu cube in the seasoned flour, shaking off any excess.
- Next, dip the tofu into the beaten eggs, ensuring it is fully coated.
- Finally, roll the tofu in the crushed cereal or breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere the coating. Set each piece aside on a plate.
4. Pan Fry Tofu Bites
Heat the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the tofu cubes in a single layer, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for approximately 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the cubes are golden brown and crispy.
5. Serve and Enjoy
Once done, transfer the tofu bites to a paper-towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Serve warm as a snack or with your favorite dipping sauce.
