Decadent Chocolate Espresso Mousse
Ingredients
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons brewed espresso
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
Instructions
1. Melt the Chocolate:
- Place a saucepan over low heat on the stove.
- Add 1 cup of chocolate chips to the saucepan.
- Stir constantly until the chocolate chips are fully melted and smooth. Be cautious not to overheat, to prevent burning the chocolate.
2. Add Espresso:
- Once the chocolate is completely melted, slowly add 2 tablespoons of brewed espresso to the mixture.
- Stir until the espresso is thoroughly incorporated, creating a silky chocolate espresso mixture.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
3. Whip the Cream:
- In a separate mixing bowl, pour 1 cup heavy cream.
- Add 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar to the cream.
- Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, whip the cream on medium speed until stiff peaks form. This will take about 3-4 minutes.
4. Combine and Fold:
- Gently fold half of the whipped cream into the cooled chocolate espresso mixture. This will lighten the mixture.
- Fold in the remaining whipped cream gently, making sure to retain the airy texture.
5. Chill and Serve:
- Pour the mixture into individual serving cups or bowls.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the mousse to set properly.
- Serve chilled, and optionally garnish with a sprinkle of powdered sugar or chocolate shavings.
