Decadent Chocolate Hazelnut Tart

Ingredients

- For the crust:
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), chilled and cubed
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- For the filling:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
- 1/4 cup Nutella or any chocolate-hazelnut spread
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup toasted hazelnuts, roughly chopped, plus more for garnish

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. Prepare the Crust:
a. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, confectioners' sugar, and salt.
b. Use a pastry cutter or two knives to cut the chilled butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
c. Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract, stirring until the dough begins to come together. Form the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic, and refrigerate for at least PT30M (30 minutes).

3. Bake the Crust:
a. Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Trim the excess dough and press it into the corners and sides of the pan.
b. Prick the bottom with a fork to prevent bubbling.
c. Line with parchment paper and fill with pie weights or dried beans.
d. Bake in the preheated oven for PT20M (20 minutes). Remove the weights and parchment, then bake for an additional PT5M (5 minutes) until the crust is set. Let it cool completely.

4. Prepare the Filling:
a. In a small saucepan over medium heat, bring the heavy cream to a simmer. Remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for a minute, then stir until smooth.
b. Stir in the Nutella, butter, and vanilla extract until completely combined. Stir in the toasted hazelnuts.

5. Assemble and Chill:
a. Pour the chocolate filling into the cooled tart crust, smoothing the top with a spatula.
b. Refrigerate the tart for at least PT2H (2 hours) to set.

6. Serve:
a. Garnish with additional toasted hazelnuts on top before slicing and serving.
