Decadent Chocolate Mousse Delight
Ingredients
- 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 3 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
- 4 large eggs, separated
- 1/4 cup sugar, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Melt the Chocolate
- In a heatproof bowl, combine the chopped chocolate and water.
- Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water, ensuring the bowl does not touch the water.
- Stir gently until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the butter until fully incorporated. Let it cool slightly.
2. Prepare the Egg Yolks
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks with 2 tablespoons of sugar and vanilla extract until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened (about 3 minutes).
- Gradually fold the egg yolk mixture into the cooled chocolate mixture until smooth.
3. Beat the Egg Whites
- In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
4. Combine Ingredients
- Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the chocolate mixture a third at a time.
- Be careful not to deflate the mixture; use a spatula to gently fold until fully combined.
5. Whip the Cream
- In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream until it reaches soft peaks.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until smooth and fully combined.
6. Chill the Mousse
- Divide the mousse into individual serving dishes or cups.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set.
