Decadent Chocolate Pretzel Snack Bars
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 ½ cups wheat flour
- ¾ cup palm and/or canola oil
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- ¼ cup invert sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder (leavening agent)
- ½ teaspoon baking soda (leavening agent)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon soy lecithin
- 1 teaspoon caramel color
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon artificial flavor (vanilla recommended)
- 2 teaspoons pretzel flavoring
- 1 cup chopped chocolate
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the bars.
2. Combine Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cornstarch. Stir to combine these dry components.
3. Mix Wet Ingredients:
- In another bowl, whisk together the palm and/or canola oil, sugar, invert sugar, soy lecithin, caramel color, and artificial flavor until you achieve a smooth, homogeneous mixture.
4. Incorporate Wet and Dry Mixtures:
- Gradually fold the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently to form a uniform dough. Ensure no dry flour patches remain.
5. Flavor Addition:
- Add the pretzel flavoring and chopped chocolate into the dough, mixing evenly to distribute these flavors throughout.
6. Prepare Baking Pan:
- Line a 9x13 inch baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it with oil.
7. Press Dough into Pan:
- Evenly spread the dough mixture into the prepared baking dish, pressing it down with spatula or hands to form a smooth, compact layer.
8. Baking:
- Place the dish into the preheated oven and bake for approximately 20 minutes or until the edges begin to crisp and pull away from the sides of the pan.
9. Cool and Cut:
