Decadent Coconut Cream Chocolate Pie
Ingredients
- 1 pre-made pie crust (9-inch)
- 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup whipped cream, plus extra for topping
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup chocolate syrup
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Prepare and Toast the Coconut
- Spread the shredded sweetened coconut in a single layer on a baking sheet.
- Place the sheet in the preheated oven and toast for 5-7 minutes, stirring halfway through until the coconut is golden brown. Remove from the oven and let it cool.
3. Bake the Pie Crust
- Place the pie crust onto a baking pan and bake according to package instructions, typically for 10-12 minutes, until it’s lightly golden. Remove and allow it to cool.
4. Create the Coconut Cream Filling
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Once the butter is melted, add the buttermilk and chocolate syrup, whisking until smooth and heated through.
- Gently fold in 1 cup of whipped cream and half of the toasted coconut until fully combined.
5. Assemble the Pie
- Pour the coconut cream mixture evenly into the baked and cooled pie crust.
- Smooth the top with a spatula.
6. Chill the Pie
- Place the pie in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until the filling is set and firm to the touch.
7. Serve
- Before serving, top the pie with additional whipped cream and the remaining toasted coconut for garnish.
