Decadent Oven-Baked Caramel Bread Pudding
Ingredients
- For the Bread Pudding:
- 8 cups day-old bread, cubed
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- For the Caramel Sauce:
- 1 cup store-bought caramel sauce
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Instructions
1. Prepare the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Prepare the Bread:
- Arrange cubed bread in a single layer on a baking sheet. Toast them in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes or until lightly golden, stirring halfway through.
3. Mix the Custard:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until thoroughly combined.
4. Soak the Bread:
- Remove the toasted bread cubes from the oven and let them cool slightly.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Place the bread cubes into the greased dish, ensuring an even layer.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread, pressing down gently with a spatula to ensure all the bread is soaked. Let it sit for 15 minutes to absorb the custard.
5. Bake the Pudding:
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
6. Prepare the Caramel Sauce:
- In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the caramel sauce and butter, stirring occasionally until smooth and heated through.
7. Serve:
- Allow the bread pudding to cool slightly before serving. Drizzle warm caramel sauce over each serving. Enjoy!
