Decadent Vanilla Matcha Panna Cotta
Ingredients
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons matcha powder
- 2 teaspoons gelatin powder
- 1/4 cup cold water
Instructions
1. Bloom the Gelatin
- In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin powder over 1/4 cup of cold water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to soften and bloom.
2. Prepare the Cream Mixture
- In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, and salt. Place the pan on the stove over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture becomes hot but not boiling (avoid boiling to prevent a gritty texture).
3. Dissolve the Gelatin
- Once the cream mixture is hot, remove it from the heat. Add the bloomed gelatin and whisk until completely dissolved.
4. Infuse with Flavors
- Stir in the vanilla extract and matcha powder. Whisk vigorously to ensure the matcha is fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
5. Strain and Chill
- Pour the panna cotta mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a large measuring cup or bowl with a spout to remove any undissolved matcha clumps.
6. Mold the Panna Cotta
- Evenly distribute the strained mixture into four dessert cups or ramekins. Cover each with plastic wrap to prevent skin formation.
7. Refrigerate
- Refrigerate the panna cotta for at least 4 hours, or until firm and set.
8. Serve
- When ready to serve, optionally garnish with a sprinkle of matcha powder or a dollop of whipped cream.
