Golden Butter Caramel Delight
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
1. Prepare Equipment: Locate a medium-sized heavy-bottomed saucepan and a wooden spoon. Ensure all ingredients are measured and ready to go, as caramel can cook quickly.
2. Melt the Butter: Set the stove to medium heat and add the 1/2 cup of unsalted butter to the saucepan. Stir occasionally until completely melted.
3. Add Sugar: Gradually add 1 cup of granulated sugar to the melted butter, stirring continuously. The mixture might appear separated at first, but continue to stir until it begins to combine.
4. Cook the Mixture: Allow the butter and sugar mixture to cook on medium heat, stirring frequently. Once the mixture turns a deep amber color (this should take about 5 to 7 minutes), reduce the heat to low. Stir constantly to prevent burning.
5. Incorporate Cream: Carefully pour 1/2 cup of heavy cream into the mixture while stirring. Be cautious, as the mixture will bubble vigorously. Continue stirring until smooth.
6. Add Flavor: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt until fully integrated and smooth.
7. Cool and Serve: Allow the caramel to cool for about 10 minutes in the saucepan. The caramel will thicken as it cools. Transfer to a heat-safe serving dish, and enjoy drizzled over your favorite desserts.
