Golden Honey Cornbread Squares
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup honey
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8x8-inch baking dish with a little butter or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the yellow cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs thoroughly. Add the buttermilk, melted butter, and honey to the eggs and whisk until everything is smooth and fully integrated.
4. Blend Wet and Dry Ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients. Using a spatula or wooden spoon, gently fold the mixtures together until they form a smooth batter. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
5. Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish, using the spatula to spread the top smoothly.
6. Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. Cool and Serve: Remove the dish from the oven and allow it to cool for at least 10 minutes before cutting into squares. Serve warm or at room temperature with a drizzle of additional honey if desired.
