Golden Potato Gratin with Creamy Parmesan Sauce



Ingredients



- 6 medium-sized potatoes
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt (to taste)
- Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Instructions



1. Preheat Your Oven
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Prepare the Potatoes
Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly, about 1/8 inch thick. Use a mandoline or a sharp knife for even slices.

3. Make the Creamy Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the whole milk, buttermilk, and heavy cream. Add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and heat until the butter is melted, stirring frequently. Do not allow the mixture to boil.

4. Layer the Potatoes
Grease a baking dish with the remaining 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Arrange the potato slices in overlapping layers. Season each layer with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

5. Pour the Sauce
Once all the potato layers are arranged, slowly pour the warm creamy mixture over the potatoes, ensuring even coverage.

6. Add Parmesan Cheese
Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top of the potatoes.

7. Bake the Gratin
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.

8. Rest and Serve
Once baked, remove the gratin from the oven and allow it to rest for 10 minutes before serving. This will help the sauce thicken slightly and make it easier to serve.
