Irresistible Broiled Heirloom Tomato & Provolone Sourdough Delight
Ingredients
- 4 slices of sourdough bread
- 4 tablespoons garlic butter, softened
- 2 large heirloom tomatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
1. Preparation: Preheat the Broiler
Preheat your oven broiler to high. Position the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source.
2. Prepare the Sourdough Bread
Evenly spread 1 tablespoon of garlic butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
3. Broil the Bread
Place the sourdough slices, buttered side up, on a baking sheet. Broil for about 2 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Keep a close eye on them to prevent burning.
4. Tomato Preparation
While the bread is under the broiler, drizzle the heirloom tomato slices with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
5. Assemble the Bread
Remove the bread from the broiler. Top each slice with a layer of heirloom tomato.
6. Add Provolone
Place a slice of provolone cheese over the tomatoes on each piece of bread.
7. Final Broil
Sprinkle 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese evenly over each provolone-topped slice. Return the assembled bread to the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly browned.
