Irresistible Cinnamon-Apple Crisp
Ingredients
- 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (optional)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into cubes
Instructions
1. Prepare the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking.
2. Prepare the Apples
In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice (if using) to prevent browning and enhance flavor. Arrange them evenly in a 9x13-inch baking dish.
3. Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger (if using), and salt. Mix until well combined.
4. Cut in the Butter
Add the chilled butter cubes to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
5. Assemble the Crisp
Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish, ensuring they are thoroughly covered.
6. Bake the Crisp
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
7. Cool and Serve
Allow the apple crisp to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. This will help the juices thicken slightly. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
