Irresistible Deep-Fried Mozzarella Pizza Pockets
Ingredients
- 1 package (16 oz) pizza dough
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 8 oz mozzarella cheese, shredded
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough
- Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface until it reaches a thickness of about 1/4 inch. Use a rolling pin for even thickness.
2. Cut and Fill
- Using a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass, cut the dough into circles approximately 4 inches in diameter.
- Place a small spoonful of tomato sauce in the center of each dough circle.
- Add a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce.
3. Seal the Pockets
- Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape, ensuring the edges meet.
- Press the edges with a fork to seal them completely. This prevents the filling from leaking during frying.
4. Preheat the Oil
- Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep pan or fryer. Heat the oil to 350°F over medium-high heat.
5. Deep Fry the Pizza Pockets
- Carefully add the sealed pizza pockets into the hot oil, in batches if necessary, to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry each pocket for 3-4 minutes, or until they turn a rich golden brown.
- Remove the pockets using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
6. Serve and Enjoy
- Allow the pockets to cool briefly before serving. Enjoy the crispy exterior and gooey mozzarella interior for a perfect snack delight.
