Irresistible Penne in Savory Cheesy Butter Sauce
Ingredients
- 10 oz penne pasta
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 cup grated hard cheese (such as Parmesan or Pecorino)
Instructions
1. Boil the Pasta:
- Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat. Add a pinch of salt.
- Add 10 oz of penne pasta to the boiling water and cook according to the package directions until it's al dente, typically around 10 minutes.
- Once cooked, reserve 1/4 cup of the pasta water, then drain the pasta and set it aside.
2. Prepare the Sauce:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter with 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
- Add 2 tablespoons of ketchup and 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. Stir to combine, letting the mixture come together to form a savory sauce, about 2 minutes.
3. Combine Pasta and Sauce:
- Add the cooked penne to the skillet with the sauce, along with the reserved pasta water. Toss the pasta continuously for about 2 minutes until it's evenly coated with the sauce.
4. Incorporate Cheese:
- Reduce the heat to low. Gradually sprinkle 1 cup of grated hard cheese over the pasta while stirring gently. The cheese will melt, creating a creamy coating over the penne.
5. Finishing Touches:
- Once the cheese has fully melted and the pasta is glossy and well-coated, remove the skillet from the heat.
- Serve immediately, garnishing with additional grated cheese if desired.
