Italian Sausage Pasta with Asiago Cheese
Ingredients
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 jar (24 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 12 ounces pasta (such as penne or rigatoni)
- 1 cup grated Asiago cheese
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients:
Remove the Italian sausage from its casing and crumble the sausage into smaller pieces.
2. Cook the Pasta:
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil, add 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and stir in the pasta.
- Cook the pasta according to the package directions until al dente, usually about PT10M
10 minutes.
- Drain the pasta and set aside.
3. Cook the Sausage:
- In a large skillet, heat a small amount of oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the crumbled Italian sausage. Cook until browned and thoroughly cooked, approximately PT8M
8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Combine Sauce and Sausage:
- Once the sausage is cooked, reduce the heat to medium and pour in the tomato sauce.
- Stir well to combine, and add the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- Let the sauce simmer with the sausage for PT5M
5 minutes to allow the flavors to marry.
5. Assemble the Dish:
- Add the cooked pasta into the skillet with the sausage and sauce mixture.
- Stir everything together to ensure the pasta is well-coated with the sauce.
6. Serve and Top with Cheese:
- Divide the pasta between 4 serving plates.
- Immediately sprinkle each serving with 1/4 cup of grated Asiago cheese allowing the heat from the pasta to melt the cheese slightly.
