Oven-Baked Bacon and Cheddar Hash Brown Casserole
Ingredients
- Nonstick cooking spray
- 8 slices of bacon
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 package (30 oz) frozen diced hash browns
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced green onions
Instructions
1. Prepare the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spray a baking dish (approximately 9x13 inches) with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
2. Cook the Bacon: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crisp, about 8-10 minutes. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess fat. Once cooled, crumble the bacon into bite-sized pieces.
3. Prepare the Onion Mixture: In the same skillet, add the chopped yellow onion and minced garlic. Sauté over medium heat for about 5 minutes, or until the onion is soft and translucent. Stir in the salt and freshly ground black pepper.
4. Mix the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the frozen diced hash browns, sautéed onions and garlic, mayonnaise, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
5. Assemble the Casserole: Spread the hash brown mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the crumbled bacon over the top, ensuring an even distribution.
6. Bake the Casserole: Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven. Bake for about 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
7. Garnish: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Sprinkle sliced green onions over the top before serving.
