Oven-Baked Buttermilk Kefir Bread Snack
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup kefir
- 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing)
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
- Set your oven to 375°F. Allow it to fully preheat while you prepare the bread.
2. Prepare the Dry Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Stir to evenly distribute the salt within the flour.
3. Mix in Wet Ingredients
- Gradually pour 1 cup of buttermilk and 1 cup of kefir into the flour mixture. Stir gently until a dough begins to form. You may use your hands to incorporate everything fully but avoid over-kneading, which can result in a tough bread consistency.
4. Shape the Dough
- Once the dough comes together, transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Knead it briefly, just until smooth. Shape the dough into a round loaf or a rectangular log, depending on your preference.
5. Prepare the Baking Sheet
- Grease a baking sheet with 1 tablespoon of butter to ensure the bread does not stick. Place the shaped dough on the greased sheet.
6. Score and Bake
- With a sharp knife, make a few shallow slashes on the top of the dough; this will allow it to expand evenly in the oven. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven.
7. Bake the Bread
- Allow the bread to bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until it turns golden brown. Check for doneness by tapping the bottom of the loaf; it should sound hollow.
8. Cool the Bread
- Once done, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
